President's Message

Dear Health Care Human Resources Colleagues:

As many have predicted, 2010 will present a challenging year to HR professionals in terms of healthcare reform and the continued sluggish economy. In Arizona particularly, we will be challenged with a state budget deficit and changes in healthcare reimbursements. At this time, more than any other in our recent history, we will be required as HR professionals to provide greater results with limited resources.

Our 2010 AHHRA Strategic Chapter Goals were developed to enhance the purpose and transparency of our association to new and current membership by: providing value-added skill development, improving professional resources for HR leaders (AHHRA website, roundtables, increased partnerships, etc.), providing growth to aspiring HR leaders, increasing regional ASHHRA chapter collaboration, and to recognize the accomplishments of our members through the objectives of our committees.

In both March and September we have planned HR roundtable discussions to follow our educational sessions. As we continue to receive e-mail requests from our members for feedback regarding policies, job descriptions, organizational structure, etc. it seemed to make sense to provide our members with an opportunity to network face-to-face.

May 7, 2010, is our Annual Conference: Promoting the Profession – Providing Results, in Scottsdale. Once again the Professional Development Committee is hard at work providing the results that you have come to expect from AHHRA. Additionally, the annual conference program content will be submitted for HRCI credits. AHHRA provides healthcare HR professionals the opportunity to get involved! As busy as we all are, seeking balance between our professional and personal lives, your membership in AHHRA provides you with colleagues in healthcare who understand your challenges. There are opportunities to participate, in whatever way your schedule allows, to support committees and certainly to attend our educational programs, expanding your professional knowledge.

Eleanor Roosevelt said “We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face... we must do that which we think we cannot.” We encourage you to do what you think you cannot and allow your AHHRA colleagues to help you get there!
